I got this in the mail today! It’s a Brathwait minimalist luminous. I’ve been considering it for a while, and finally pulled the trigger.
I think it’s pretty suave so far. It’s a tad under 40mm, but it still looks pretty big on my wrist because the case is relatively thick and it’s all dial. I’m really into small watches, so this is about as big as I want to go. I think it toes the line quite well.
I’m not sure if I’ll keep it though. I’ve been looking to move into the mechanical world, and I really want one of those old Omega Seamasters, so I might just save up and make the jump there later this year. Brathwait also makes an automatic vsresion of this one, which I’m considering.
I also ordered a burgundy brown strap for this one, though, so I’ll reserve judgement until then.
But I do love the design and quality of this one, and I’d definitely recommend it.

Awesome, I really like that style of watch.

Yeah, I’ve tried on some of those bigger sport watches and it’s just not for me... I only wore running watches for the longest time, so I think that’s why I like this minimalist stuff.

You just got it, but you don’t think you’ll keep it?

I’m basically just exploiting their return policy to try it on.

Ahhhh ok that makes more sense now. Nothing wrong with that, then.
If you prefer a minimalist look, have you considered a Baum & Mercier? Not sure what your budget is but they make some elegant, yet simple watches. If that is a bit much, Tissot makes some nice minimalist watches in their T Classic line as well and some of those are automatics.
I personally love automatics. I have 18 watches and a third of them are automatics. Here’s the Bulova I am currently wearing.

If you want a super cheap introduction to automatic watches, I can highly recommend the Seiko 5 automatic ($55 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNK805-Automatic-Stainless-Canvas/dp/B000LTAY1U ). Plus, it has a visible movement.

I’m certainly a fan of B & M, but they’re a bit too expensive for me. Didn’t know some of those Tissots were automatic though, so I’ll have to check that out.
And nice Bulova! I’ve gone down the military issue rabbit hole, and they made some gems back in the day. I know my grandpa still has a Vietnam era watch, but I can’t remember if it’s a Bulova or a Waltham or something else.

Understandable. I’m saving up for a Tag eventually so I know how that is.
Indeed they do! I want a Tissot for my next watch, I just haven’t decided on which one yet. Here’s one of the ones they offer. Not a rose gold fan personally, but they have others.
Thanks! I am a watch dork, what can I say haha. I have this one and a Precisionist. There’s still some old military issue watches out there, just haven’t looked in a while.

Thanks, I’ve actually been looking at vintage military issues and ran across this one as well.

I’ve already been googling those and it looks like there’s some pretty good stuff out there. Always have to try automatics on in person though. Some of those rotors are pretty noisy.

Same here. I wanted a cheap watch I wouldn’t have to worry about getting damaged, and since this was cheap and automatic, I decided to jump on it and I haven’t been disappointed so far.

Some can be, but the better known brands are pretty quiet. I would definitely recommend giving one a go.
